How fees work
Insurance we work with
We are out of network, so we do not bill health plans directly. Some plans reimburse acupuncture when you send in a receipt, and others do not cover it. Many student and employee plans differ from one another, so ask yours.
Employer and marketplace plans: ask whether they reimburse acupuncture
Student health plans: ask the plan, not only the campus health office
If you pay yourself
Most visits are paid at the time of service. We agree on the fee for your first visit and for each visit after it before the first needle. HSA and FSA cards can often be used: ask your plan administrator. If cost is in the way, tell us before you book and we will talk about a reduced-fee visit.
Receipts for reimbursement
After every visit we give you an itemized receipt, called a superbill, which your plan may reimburse in part. Your plan decides. Before you send it, ask your plan:
Is there an acupuncture benefit?
How many visits does it allow?
Is there a copay or a deductible?
Do I need a referral?
An estimate in advance
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a good faith estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one in writing before the first visit. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
Checking your benefits
Because we are out of network, we cannot check your benefits for you. Call your plan before your first visit and ask the four questions above.
What the first visit includes
About 75 minutes: a talk about your sleep, your week and what you take, a treatment, and a plan for the next few visits. Follow-up visits take about 45 minutes. The fee for each is on your written estimate.
Questions about cost?
Ask before you book. We would rather talk about it first.
